What should an integration programme decide first?
Clarify the deal thesis, the critical services that must continue and the decisions needed before teams can proceed. Separate immediate continuity requirements from longer-term operating-model choices. A useful plan names the dependency, the decision owner and the date the decision is needed.
How should integration workstreams be governed?
Give each workstream a defined scope, an accountable lead, milestones and a route for escalation. Use a shared decision log and dependency view so technology, people, finance and operations do not optimise in isolation. Steering meetings should resolve decisions and exceptions, with clear evidence for stage gates.
How do you measure value creation after a merger?
Tie each benefit to a baseline, a calculation method, an owner and an implementation cost. Track forecast, committed and realised benefits separately. Finance should validate the treatment of savings and revenue effects, including possible overlap between workstreams; otherwise the same benefit can be counted twice.
What belongs in the target operating model?
Set out the customer proposition, core processes, organisation, responsibilities, systems and performance measures. Explain which capabilities will be shared and which must remain distinct. The model should express the strategic choices and be detailed enough for teams to implement and test.
Where does AI fit into integration?
Consider AI and automation where they support a defined integration problem, such as analysing process variation or improving a shared workflow. First confirm data quality, permissions, accountabilities and evaluation criteria. An emerging-technology roadmap is a set of options to prove; it should not be counted as a realised synergy.
What experience informs Nitesh Chawda’s approach?
My career includes a McKinsey-contracted engagement-manager role at Alinta Energy covering strategy, AI governance, operating-model design and integration governance across six workstreams. The career profile supplies relationship context. The selected cases give further transformation examples; programme outcomes reflect contributions within wider teams.
